GREAT ATTITUDE

Wednesday, September 01, 2010

Michael Douglas, making his first public appearance since revealing he's battling throat cancer, told David Letterman today that "expectations are good" and "the percentages are very good" that he'll beat this thing.

"I would hate to say," said the star of the upcoming Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, "but right now, it looks like it should be 80 percent, and with certain hospitals and everything, it does improve."

GLEEK MEETS THE SIMPSONS
Modern Family may have won the Emmy, but Glee has really made it.

Lea Michele, Cory Monteith and Amber Riley have received their four-finger makeovers and will be on hand to help ring in the 22nd season premiere of The Simpsons, in which Lisa visits a performing arts camp and is duly bitten with the musical-theater bug.

And the stars of Glee aren't the only ones bringing the funny that night...

New Zealanders Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie of Flight of the Conchords also make cameos on the Sept. 26 episode, obviously to bring "Something Special for All the Ladies."

Glee returns to Fox on Sept. 21.

MONEY MAKER

For the second consecutive year, Shia LaBeouf holds the title for making the studios the most profit!

According to Forbes, the actor brings in $81 profit for every dollar he is paid.

Anne Hathaway took second place for generating $64 in profit, followed by Daniel Radcliffe with $61, Robert Downey Jr. ($33) and Cate Blanchett ($27).

Impressive.

GURLS ON TOP

Katy Perry took the number one spot on the charts this week with the release of Teenage Dream selling more than 194,000 copies!

And Fantasia took second place with her album Back To Me with sales just over 122,000 copies!

Congrats, ladies — nice work!

DON'T LET THE BED BUGS BITE
The festival is back on!

Though there were reports this morning that the Toronto Film Festival's premiere venue was infested with bed bugs, sources from Cineplex have sent out a press release stating that the situation has been resolved. The statement reads:

"Late yesterday afternoon, Cineplex contracted the services of Abell Pest Control Inc., (Abell), who are experts in their field, to investigate a claim made by a theatre guest that they had been bitten by bed bugs and believed it had occurred while they were watching a movie at our Scotiabank Theatre Toronto. After a thorough investigation overnight, which involved a specially trained sniffing dog and a secondary visual inspection, Abell has confirmed that there were no bed bugs located within the Scotiabank theatre."

Wonderful! It would have really, REALLY sucked if those icky creepy crawlers spoiled all the fun!

REALLY?
We hope this doesn't encourage some insane breeding trend for families hoping to snag a reality show!

TLC premiered their new "family with multiples" show Quints By Surprise last week and while the kids are cute and all, it's the same damn premise as Jon and Kate Plus 8.

The show revolves around Texas couple Casey and Ethan Jones and their 6-year-old daughter and toddler quints.

NAME?
What will the name be of Conan's new show?  We will know tomorrow and so will all of you, if Conan O'Brien is true to his word. This afternoon, he posted this message on his Twitter:

"I was going to announce the name of my new show today, but my lawyers tell me 'The Return of Nanny McPhee' is taken. Tune in tomorrow."

Hopefully, he isn't kidding. We don't think Team CoCo would like that very much!

SHUT UP!

Honey, I’m Coming Out of Retirement!

That’s right, folks. Sources are saying that Rick Moranis will come out of retirement to reprise his role in the third Ghostbusters film!

The other big Ghostbusters story update is that Oscar, Sigourney Weaver’s child from Ghostbusters 2, will join the team in this film, AND it will be revealed that Oscar is the lovechild of Weaver and Bill Murray’s characters! Scan-da-lous!

No word yet on who will play their son. Perhaps they can bring on Zombieland star Jesse Eisenberg. He’s clearly capable of killing netherworldly creatures, and he’s just awkward enough to be a solid Ghostbuster.

More than anything, we hope the Rick Moranis news comes to fruition. We’d really love to see him on the big screen again!

G'DAY MATE

Paul Hogan of the Crocodile Dundee movies says he can't afford to pay even 10 percent of what the Australian Tax Office says he owes in back taxes!

Tax authorities claim that Hogan owes tax on 38 million Australian dollars, but Hogan is denying that he is a tax evader. He explains:

“I actually came out here at the request of the Australian Crime Commission at my own time and expense to assist them with their inquires. If I was a tax evader, which I’m not, I must be the dumbest one in the world, because they gave me five years notice that they have seized every piece of paper that my tax advisers and lawyers and accountants have ever had. I kept coming back here.

“I can’t pay 10 percent of what they’re asking. I know they’re absolutely desperate to nail some high-profile character with money to justify the expense to the taxpayer."

Hogan has been served with an Australian Taxation Office order preventing him from leaving Australia until he settles the tax bill.

Yikes!

BIG SELLER

People magazine was so confident their Elin Nordegren issue would be a big seller that they raised the price and printed more copies which they haven't done since the debut of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's twins back in August 2008!

An insider reveals:

"Everyone at People will be popping the champagne this morning. Early numbers show that Elin sold around 2 million copies, way up from its average of 1.4 million, yet not quite the 2.5 million Angelina sold."

But the Elin issue was ultimately more profitable because she opened up to the mag for free whereas Ange and Brad got paid $12 million!

A friend of Elin's says:

"This wasn't about the money for Elin. It was about telling her story once and for all. She will be happy that so many people bought the issue and finally read the truth. But now she hopes they all go away and leave her and her family alone. The last thing in the world Elin wanted to be was a celebrity."

But she's on the cover of a best-selling issue of People so we think it's a safe bet that she IS a celebrity — at least for now!
