DRAMATIC RESCUE
29 Aug 2008
by:
Collingwood OPP say a 4 year old girl was in an inflatable raft without a life jacket Thursday afternoon, when it drifted out into Georgian Bay just off of Sunset Beach. People on shore were unable to get to the girl so they called police. The OPP's marine unit was dispatched but another boat with the harbour commissioner on board got to her before they did. Just as they arrived a gust of wind knocked the raft over, the youngster was thrown into the water and went under. They jumped in and quickly got her on board where she was frightened but otherwise okay. The OPP say all involved in the rescue should be considered for a life saving award for their heroic actions.
