NOT OFFICIAL-YET

Friday, August 20, 2010

Well, Sean Penn must be pleased.

Wyclef Jean's presidential run in Haiti hit its first—and, possibly, last—major obstacle Thursday when he reportedly failed to make the list of legally approved candidates for the Nov. 28 election.

So is that it?

"He is not on the list as I speak," an election official told Reuters. The Provisional Electoral Council will make the list public on Friday.

But Jean, who's been lying low in Haiti after allegedly receiving death threats, told the Miami Herald today that he's still optimistic that he's going to be on the list, along with 33 other people who submitted their names.

And PEC head Gaillot Dorsinvil told the Herald that no such list exists yet.

The anonymous official didn't go into detail on what supposedly prevented Jean from making the cut, but questions had arose as to the legitimacy of his candidacy, considering presidential contenders are required to have maintained a residency in Haiti for at least five years and Jean's family moved to Brooklyn when he was a kid.

Jean, 39, pointed out when he announced his candidacy that he holds a Haitian passport and is a frequent visitor to the impoverished island nation. He was born in the Port-au-Prince suburb of Croix-des-Bouquets.

"My lawyers have produced every piece of document that has been asked for,'' he told the Herald. "No one can say that there is any flaw.''

The former Fugees rapper's Yelé Haiti Foundation raised more than $9.1 million for victims of the Jan. 12 earthquake, which killed upward of 200,000 people and displaced thousands more. Jean resigned as chairman when he decided to go for the country's top job.

SHE'S BE GOOD
American Idol could end up glittering next season after all.

Mariah Carey is still in negotiations to sign on as a judge, a source exclusively tells E! News.

"She wants it," says the source. "She's seen what America's Got Talent has done for [hubby Nick Cannon] and thinks it will be a good career move."

COME BACK X TWO

Joey Lawrence, best known for saying “Whoa!” on Blossom, and Wesley Snipes best known for the Blade trilogy, and for his criminal escapades, will be making a comeback together in the upcoming action movie Havana Heat!

Recently, Joey has been gaining popularity with his role in Melissa & Joey, which is becoming a major ABC Family project, and Wesley Snipes became somewhat pertinent with his role in the film Brooklyn’s Finest, but this movie could very well take both their careers up a notch.

The story revolves around a Guantanomo agent with Homeland Security, who’s murdered. We certainly hope it isn’t Joey’s character who gets murdered…unless he still has the crew cut. He needs to take care of that by the time they start filming this.

We’re curious to see how this thing plays out. Will the consequences of Wesley’s criminal activity conflict with this movie? Will Joey get sunburn while running around outside all day on set with his bald head exposed?

THE VAMPS HAVE THE TOP SPOTS

Robert Pattinson took the top spot on Glamour's 50 Sexiest Men of 2010 list for the second year in a row!

Twilight co-star Taylor Lautner took the number two spot followed by Ian Somerhalder at number three.

Congrats, guys!

HE SOUNDS MAD
John Mellencamp on the music biz and the internet.

“I think the Internet is the most dangerous thing invented since the atomic bomb. It's destroyed the music business. It's going to destroy the movie business,” says John Mellencamp. He claims that the rise in online music sales, decline in CD sales, and the increase in internet piracy will crush the music industry.

YEAH-GOTTA JOB

We're happy to see he is getting some work, but Broadway is an Idol graveyard!

Let's hope his career doesn't die like some many others!

Justin Guarini, runner-up to Kelly Clarkson in the first American Idol, will star in the new Broadway musical Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown.

The show goes up at Lincoln Center in November and Justin is performing alongside some Broadway heavyweights: Brian Stokes Mitchell, Sherie Rene Scott and last but certainly not least, the incomparable Patti LuPone!

REALLY?

Do we really need a 5th Indiana Jones movie?

Well apparently so because Shia LaBeouf seems to like the idea!

He says:

"They're script writing right now. I got called into Steven [Spielberg]'s office and he pitched a little bit to me and it sounds crazy, it sounds really cool."

Meh, we're kinda over the Indy comeback.

MOVING ON

After the devastating breakup with her fiance Luke Worrall, Kelly Osbourne is already getting cozy with BMX biker Josh Hansen.

The two were spotted have dinner at Katsuya on Wednesday, along with attending Ozzfest together and spending time with her family. They even have a healthy Twitter rivalry going.

OFF THE COUNTRYSIDE

Well she did it!

Lisa Marie Presley purchased an £8 million stately home near Tunbridge Well, Kent in England!

She and her fourth husband Michael Lockwood arrived this week with their twin girls Harper and Finley. The mansion is set on 90 acres with 11 bedrooms, an indoor pool and sauna and a movie theater.

She made the decision after saying that El Lay had "gotten dramatically worse in the last five or six years, even more shallow if that's even possible."

Well we're sure Tunbridge Wells will bring about quite a change!
